Fall 2019 Auditions

AUDITION for MTA's Fall 2019 production

Untitled Dance Theater Show

This piece will be created in collaboration with the performers, and the launching points of inquiry include Gertrude Stein’s play Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters and some additional inspiration from No Exit by Sartre and Michael Pollan’s book How to Change Your Mind.

We will follow the physical structure of Stein's play, but cut out all of the dialogue, replacing it with a new, original script. This script will be composed mostly from newly recorded interview material. Actors will perform the original interview material using an in-ear monitor technique whereby the original source material is fed into their ear and activated and transformed by its placement onstage. This method allows for an ultra present performance style, which opens up the performer’s attentiveness and intuition.

The show will take on ideas of consensus reality, consciousness, fear, memory, and identity, as well as some stories about bears, toads, and pop culture.

It will be fully choreographed with extended sections of dance generated in collaboration with the performers, in both behavioral / narrative styles and big full out party styles, and many styles in between.
