About the Performer

Alan Osmundson is a senior at MIT studying Aerospace Engineering. Alan has been playing the trumpet for thirteen years, and his sound is a product of the rich jazz tradition of the San Francisco Bay Area and Boston. He has performed across the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean Islands, and has studied privately with great musicians and artists, including Dann Zinn, Tiger Okoshi, Greg Hopkins, and (currently) Dan Rosenthal. At MIT, Alan has played in the Festival Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Fred Harris for four years, in the Emerson fellowship ensemble under the direction of John Harbison for two years, and in the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Fred Harris and Ken Amis for one year. Recently he has also found his voice as a composer of small and large ensemble music. In the Fall, Alan will begin his Master’s degree in Astronautical Engineering at USC, and he hopes to continue playing and composing there.
