ARISTOTLE THINKS AGAIN is a contemporary dance/theater collision course on some ancient Greek themes.
After an acclaimed, sold out run, extended for an extra week, in NYC this past month, the show will perform at MIT for one night only, Saturday, March 2.
"a masterpiece" (Culurebot)
"a daring work of physical theater" (The Dance Enthusiast)
"powerful and refreshing" (Front Row Center).
Helen Shaw in The New Yorker wrote it "approaches dance with total abandon and exuberance. “Aristotle Thinks Again” circles a central question: What if we survive the apocalypse? The answer is clearly to take pleasure in one another, and in the way our miraculous bodies move in space."
"Aristotle Thinks Again" is a collaboration between MIT Senior Lecturer in dance Dan Safer / Witness Relocation and La Mama Theater’s Great Jones Rep. The show continues down the path started in last year’s “The “History of Empires”, once again featuring text by playwright Chuck Mee, and performer Marcus McGregor joining Great Jones members as a Guest Artist. Internationally acclaimed composer / cellist has written an original score, and MIT Associate Professor Sara Brown has designed the set.
Directed/choreographed by Dan Safer / Text by Chuck Mee / Original Music by Julia Kent / Set by Sara Brown / Lights by Jay Ryan / Costumes by Alicia Austin / Sound Design by Attilio Rigotti
Performed, co-created, and co-choreographed by maura nguyen donohue, John Maria Gutierrez, Valois Mickens, Kim Savarino, & Marcus McGregor
Aristotle Thinks Again is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts for La MaMa Great Jones Rep’s Humanismo: Ancient Futures Series, NYS DanceForce partner Elena Mosley/Operation Unite.
