This unique MITWE event includes five soloists, a world premiere, two Boston premieres, and a cornerstone of the wind ensemble repertoire.

The world premiere of a piece for solo quartet and wind ensemble by composer, renowned tuba player, and MITWE Assistant Conductor, Kenneth Amis, features two tubists (Frederick Ajisafe, ’22, and his teacher, Amis), and two flutists (Charlotte Wickert, ’22, and her teacher Sue-Ellen Hershman-Tcherepnin). MIT’s own Andy Wilds is soloist for the Boston premiere of I Dream Awake, Concerto for Alto Saxophone & Wind Ensemble by Giovanni Santos, commissioned by a consortium including MITWE. What Makes Us Human for percussion ensemble, by MITWE alum Tatsuya Daniel ‘20, receives its Boston premiere with percussionists of the Brown University Wind Symphony joining MITWE’s percussionists. The program also includes Michael Sweeney’s Villages, the MITWE Brass Quintet performing movements from P.D.Q. Bach’s, Brass Calendar, and Gustav Holst’s wind ensemble classic First Suite in Eb closes out this singular MITWE celebration.
