Composer, electronic musician, and violist Forrest Larson has written works for string orchestra, wind ensemble, string quartet, percussion, and unaccompanied violin, viola and cello. His electro-acoustic compositions include works for flute, violin, cello, organ and tuba, and he has also created music for abstract films.  His music has been featured throughout New England at MIT, Longy School of Music, Goethe Institute, Brandeis University, Mobius, the WaterFire Providence, Rhode Island School of Design, Brown University and the Pixilrations Festival. Other engagements include performances of his works at Carnegie-Mellon University, Washington and Jefferson University (PA), Mansfield University (PA), Southern Oregon University, Ithaca College, California Institute for the Arts, Pittsburgh University (PA), and in Iceland.

As an electronic musician, he performs as a soloist and with his ensemble, Sonic Sandbox, an improvisational collective. In his live electronic-music performances, he uses an intricate network of vintage and modern analog synthesizers, filters, and signal processors to create rich fluid sound tapestries. He has lectured and given workshops on electro-acoustic music at MIT, Rhode Island School of Design, Bates College, Ithaca College, Southern Oregon University and The New Directions Cello Festival.

As a freelance violist, he has played with the New England Philharmonic, Boston Chamber Ensemble, and various chamber groups.

Forrest Larson’s music is published by the composer collective Frog Peak Music and registered with BMI. You may contact him at larson50@verizon.net.
