About the Performer

Daniela Velez is a final-year undergraduate student at MIT studying computer science. Her family is from Colombia and she grew up in Parkland, Florida, where she studied piano from age 7 with Leana Strouse, Russian-American violinist and pianist. Daniela competed in piano, violin, conducting, and musical theater during middle school and high school at the regional and state levels, receiving superior ratings in piano for 9 years.

At MIT, Daniela has studied with Eileen Huang, music faculty member at MIT, for four years as an Emerson Scholar, and has performed works by Liszt, Tchaikovsky, Schumann, and Beethoven. Apart from her piano solo performances, she has also played piano as an accompanist and has played violin with the MIT Symphony Orchestra. After graduation, she plans on moving to NYC and continuing her piano performances alongside her full-time career.
