Immense Joy/ Hots
Work in progress showing

Senior Lecturer Anna Kohler’s latest devised work Immense Joy/ Hots is based on the writing of Clarice Lispector, a revolutionary Brazilian author (1920-67). The project begins with a primary workshop during the summer of 2021 and a work in progress performance at MIT in September, with a full premiere at The Tank in New York in winter 2022.

Lispector is a legend among Brazilian writers for her innovative and truly provocative style and content. Apart from being infected by the profound and insane humor of her writing, the piece will attempt a deep vision into what it truly means to be poor—not “middle-class” or “Bohemian” poor—but in a desperate situation without any possibilities. Immense Joy/Hots attempts, with the help of the passionate writing of Lispector, to hold up a mirror to us all.
