Democratic Vistas?
Ellington Extrapolations & “Social Significance” Works by Mark Harvey
The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra presents a concert titled “Democratic Vistas?” Mark Harvey and Aardvark will celebrate Duke Ellington’s birthday by honoring his tradition of “social significance” compositions. Original works in this vein by Harvey will include the premiere of “Main Man” for noted impresario Fred Taylor, “Boston Boy,” for the late Nat Hentoff, and premieres of contemporary tone-parallels such as “Fake News Blewz,” “Swamp-a-rama,” and “Waltz of the Oligarchs.” Also on the program, a reading from Walt Whitman’s “Democratic Vistas,” and a performance of Harvey’s anthem of hope and inclusivity “No Walls.”
