Rarely nowadays does one encounter a new, living master of the quartet medium, but Elena Ruehr is just that. Her six fluently written quartets are exquisitely performed on this, Avie's third release of Ruehr’s music, by the Cypress and in (No 2) Borromeo Quartets, and the sound is beautifully clear.
