It’s Alive, Play Reading Series, curated by Anna Kohler, presents Body Awareness by Pulitzer prize winning author Annie Baker, directed by MIT alumnus Adam Strandberg ‘15.  Body Awareness is a play about objectification and acceptance. The play centers on Phyllis and Joyce, a lesbian couple in the quiet town of Shirley, Vermont. For Body Awareness Week at the local college, they host photographer Frank Bonitatibus at their house. But tensions rise between Phyllis and Joyce when it's revealed that Frank takes pictures of nude women, and Phyllis is interested. Meanwhile, Phyllis is concerned that her son Jared, who is obsessed with the Oxford English Dictionary, may have Asperger's syndrome. Annie Baker's unique blend of humor and gentle attention to the reality of her characters lives sheds light on the ways in which identity politics both infuse our daily lives and fail to capture the subtlety of existence.
