INSTITUTE AWARDS

 

Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts

The Sudler Prize is presented annually to a graduating senior who has demonstrated excellence or the highest standards of proficiency in music, theater, painting, sculpture, design, architecture or film. 

 

The Laya and Jerome B. Wiesner Student Art Awards

The Wiesner Student Art Awards are presented each year annually to up to four students (undergraduate or graduate), living groups, organizations or activities for outstanding achievement in and contributions to the arts at MIT. 

 

MUSIC AND THEATER ARTS SECTION AWARDS

 

THEATER ARTS AWARDS

 

The Edward S. Darna Award is awarded to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence in theater arts and made a substantial contribution to the health of theater life at MIT (Recommend up to 3 awards- $500 each award).

 

The Joseph D. Everingham Award is named in honor of Joseph Everingham, who was a long-time director of Dramashop from the 1950s through early 1970s. It is awarded to a graduating student in recognition of a single creative outstanding performance or notable creative accomplishments in theater arts (Recommend up to 2 awards- $250 each award).

 

Alan Brody Prize in Theater Arts is named in honor of playwright and former MIT Professor of Theater Arts and Associate Provost for the Arts Alan Brody. This annual prize celebrates the accomplishments of a graduating senior who has demonstrated artistic excellence in the theater with an emphasis on playwright.

 

MUSIC AWARDS

 

The Lowell Lindgren Prize for Musical Scholarship named in honor of musicologist and for MIT Professor of Music, Lowell Lindgren. For excellence in musical research and innovation in historical, cultural, theoretical, or technological studies. The award may be given for distinguished achievements in or out of the classroom, either in recognition of a single research project or for cumulative work that advances musical knowledge.

 

Endicott Award is in recognition of distinguished service and musical contribution to world music (Recommend up to 1 award- $250 each award).

 

Gregory Tucker Memorial Prizes: In recognition of exceptional ability in composition, performance, music-historical studies, or music technology, and overall contributions to the Music and Theater Arts Section (Recommend up to 4 awards- $750 each award).

 

Everett Longstreth Jazz Awards: in recognition of distinguished service and musical contribution to te MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble.

 

Richard and Jody Nordlof Awards: in recognition of distinguished service and musical contribution to the MIT Wind Ensemble.

 

Epstein Award: in recognition of distinguished service and musical contribution to the MIT Symphony Orchestra (Recommend up to 2 awards- $200 each award).

 

Philip Loew Memorial Awards: in recognition of creative accomplishment in music. (Multiple awards given, at least one in composition. Recommend up to 4 awards- $600 each award).

 

J. & E. Ruina Scholarship Award Certificate: in recognition of special gifts in piano (no cash award).

 

Ragnar and Margaret Naess Award: in recognition of exceptional talent and commitment to performance at MIT (Recommend up to 10 awards- $100 each award).

 

Ragnar and Margaret Naess Certificates of Distinction: in recognition of exceptional talent and commitment to performance at MIT.

 

MIT Chamber Music Society Special Award Certificates: in recognition of an exceptional performance and commitment to chamber music (no cash award).

 

John Oliver Choral Award: in recognition of exemplary students participating in the MIT MTA choral program (Concert Choir or Chamber Chorus) (Recommend up to 1 award- $200 each award).

 

Chamber Music Performance Awards: in recognition to steadfast commitment to Chamber Music Performance.
