Michael Goetjen is musicologist whose research focuses on eighteenth-century opera and the music of Mozart, particularly the concert aria and its role in operatic culture outside the theater. He holds a PhD in musicology from Rutgers University, where he also completed an MA in musicology, and he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music with secondary major in History from The College of William and Mary. A harpsichordist and organist as well as a musicologist, Michael works regularly in both classroom and performance environments having previously served as Director of Music at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Berkeley Heights and currently as a freelance organist in the Greater Boston Area. He currently performs with A Joyful Noyse early music ensemble at Hancock Church in Lexington, MA and has served as interim organist there. Michael also serves as Website Editor and a member of the Board of Directors of the Mozart Society of America.
