Production Seminar: Live Cinema

21M.711 Production Seminar: Live Cinema

Jay Scheib

Studio workshop leaps into the deep-end of interdisciplinary performance practices by investigating the meaningful integration of new (and used) audio, video, and broadcast technologies in live performance. Students experiment with cameras, mircophones, and maverick approaches to stage scenography in the development of two Live Cinema Performance events that will be broadcast live online. Part experimental television, part re-envisioning of the classical repertory theater for an audience that favors engaging media online while sill craving the unpredictability of the live. Students will collaborate as performers, designers, camera operators, programers, and editors in creating live broadcasts of Schiller’s ground breaking 18th century tragedy The Robbers, and Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
